QUESTIONS ANSWERED

How much cash in US$ should I bring with me? – $200 or $300 including some small bills.

Is it cheaper to change money from US $ to Euros, or to pull Euros from an ATM machine using a USA debit card?

It is cheapter to change money from a shop or place that advertises “money exchange” than from an ATM machine which often charges high service fees. If changing money from an ATM machine, use a bank ATM to avoid high fees. Avoid free standing ATM machines.

Cash vs. charge – Can I charge just about anything, anywhere in Greece?

Yes, however for small purchases under five Euros you might want to pay in cash so you aren’t pulling out your charge card regularly. Also, you will be able to make small purchases from street vendors if you have cash. When charging, choose to be charged in Euros, if asked if you want to use your home currency, to avoid poor conversion rates.
